About Mr. Garrett
Having won numerous photographic awards from The Virginia Press Association as a newspaper photographer, where subject matter is not always pleasant, Bill Garrett decided to pursue photography of a more pleasing nature and opened Garrett Studios, Ltd. in 1980. Focusing primarily on portrait photography (high school seniors, children, and weddings), Bill has been quite successful in this venue. In 1995, Bill was awarded membership in Sterling Who's Who for "excellence in the field of photography". Five years later in 2000, National Registers Who's Who selected Bill as an honored professional for "excellence and professionalism in the photographic industry".
Joining The Virginia Professional Photographers Association in 2000 and The Professional Photographers of America the same year, Bill holds the Fellow of Photography degree from the VPPA and the Photographic Craftsman degree from the PPA. In 2013, he was designated a "gold master artist" by the PPA and currently has won over 100 awards in his photographic career. In 2010, the PPA awarded the coveted "National Award" to Bill for "meritorious contributions to professional photography", an award which can only be awarded to any individual once in a lifetime.
Bill was selected to photograph two Virginia governors, a United States senator, and former Speaker of the House, the honorable Newt Gingrich, along with Hollywood screen legend Charlton Heston and Iran Contra figure Col. Oliver North. To date, included in his over 100 photographic awards for his expertise are 12 awards on the national level.
At the 2015 Virginia Professional Photographers annual state print competition held in Richmond, VA, Bill had four first place and two second place awards out of six entries. He also won a Judge's Choice, a Best in Category, and a Court of Honor. Bill also had the three top scoring prints in the entire state as well as the top scoring print case (the total score of the six allowable entries).
